I first heard of Dole when I was about six years old. My parents said they were taking me to Hawaii, and I was so excited about going, because of how much I’d heard. It was the land of surfers. It was the land of coconut palm trees and virgin pina coladas. It was the land of…pineapples. (Not that I really knew.) And bananas, of course. But the memory that sticks out to me the most my very first time in Hawaii is cheeseburgers.
There was this amazing place called Cheeseburger in Paradise. They were these thick beef patties that sat perfectly in-between two perfect patties. It was just like SpongeBob Squarepants, and the Krabby Crab. And here on this perfect island, anything was possible. It WAS truly Paradise. I got a surfing lesson. I got a nice big virgin pina colada next to my Dad. 🙂
I always wanted to go someplace special. That’s why we went to the Dole plantation. I got pineapple Cool Whip. But what I really remember are the bright green sparkling emerald hedgerows in the pineapple plantation getting lost in the maze, and playing the ukulele at the Polynesian Luau Festival and it being so happy on Oahu 🙂
