In the Shadow of Giants
my true story
Hi! I’m Austin! I don’t know how to begin a story like this. You’re probably wondering who I am! WELL I CAN PRETTY MUCH GUARANTEE IM WONDERING A WHOLE LOT MORE WHO YOU ARE!!! I know who I am! I’m Austin! I’m me! I really like peanut butter and jelly! I really like string cheese! I really like ice cream! I really like EVERYTHING!!! I LOVE the birds and the bees! I have a story that you’re probably not going to believe. It’s the true story of how I achieved world peace. It all begins with me starting to tell you this story, which I know may be just a tiny bit hard to believe, but really shouldn’t be. There’s lots of things we used to think were impossible to achieve: just to give you an example, trains, cars, roller coasters, airplanes. I never thought I’d be giving this speech, not after what my very first teacher told me. He told me I could do anything. I could be anything. That was easy to say. He wasn’t straight AND gay, and he definitely wasn’t the kind of person who would have anything to do with me. I wasn’t funny; I wasn’t sexy; I wasn’t muy inteligente; I was pretty much just nothing.
In the summer of 2011, Dole, the huge banana company, invaded Sri Lanka. I know you’re probably wondering why I’m bringing this up, since it happened such a long time ago. You’re also probably wondering why
