Pluto

I looked at my teacher. “Just like me!”

“What do you mean?”

“I can be anything! A rocket ship, a star, or Neptune, or any other planet in the whole entire galaxy. I bet you never knew that I’m also another planet. I didn’t want to tell you this, but my real name is ______________________. I come from the absolute edge of our galaxy. Actually I just come from the edge of our solar system. I’m very, very icy. No one likes me. Everyone calls me a dwarf. I used to be called a planet but then I got demoted and now I’m just called one of my ex-best friends.

It actually makes me really sad. I feel like crying right now. Boo-hoo. Boooooo, hooo!!!! But the problem is I’m so cold all my tears just stick to my head. If I had a tongue it would be OK because then I could just lick all the ice off my head. But I tried that once and because it was so cold my tongue just stuck to my head, so…don’t do that!!!

I’d started laughing and smiling.

“What’s so funny?” PLUTO said.

“You don’t have to be sad anymore. You can come with us!” I said.

“Where are we going?”

“We’re going to keep exploring the galaxy. We’re going to keep looking for even more planets and solar systems and comets and”

“But don’t you think you’re going to get lonely?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean the reason I got lonely is I didn’t have any friends. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve gone searching throughout the whole universe in search of friends. And I didn’t find any until I met you. And I was really hoping, well…to make even more friends like you.”
